My Review : Jodi Breakers is a dull . It will not be able to break even.
Good: A few comedy scenes; the music.
Watch or Not?: Watch it for the performances and the music, but do not expect much else.
Story: Jodi Breakers as the title suggests is an unusual love story of home breakers Sid (R Madhavan) and Sonali (Bipasha Basu). After parting ways with his wife on a bad note, Sid no longer believes in the institution of marriage. He bumps into Sonali at Nano’s (Omi Vaidya) pub and soon Sonali becomes his partner in crime as a Jodi Breaker. The duo runs a pretty good business until they come across a deal which though lucrative turns their lives upside down. The clients involved here are Sid’s ex-wife, Maggie (Dipannita Sharma), Mark (Milind Soman), and Mark’s granny Modanna (Helen). How will their respective lives come on the track is the rest of the story.
Story Treatment: The strength of Jodi Breakers lies in its stupendous script. The pre-interval suspense element and twists leaves one enthralled. What adds to the glee are some logical explanations of situations in the life of each character which justify their behavioral patterns. But, as the second half begins, screenplay gets extremely monotonous with some formulaic moments which lack novelty. Predictability further takes away the charm.
Star Cast: Fresh on-screen pairing seems to be the flavor of the season and it works out well for Jodi Breakers too. R Madhavan and Bipasha Basu are both brilliant in their own space and together. It’s a delight to watch Maddy pouring his heart out to Bips in a beautifully shot scene and eventually aesthetically showcased love-making scene. Milind Soman initially uncomfortable gets into the character with ease. Dipannita Sharma has improved with each film she has done so far. The actress is flawless in a character of abandoned yet strong-willed woman. Helen looks charming as always and plays her part well. Omi Vaidya repeats his 3 Idiots style which isn’t funny anymore.
Direction: Ashwini Chaudhary has come a long way from 'Good Boy Bad Boy' days as he springs up a surprise with crisp and edge of the seat drama. But, after a point of time his direction loses threads. The biggest drawback is- he dares to give a shabby look to Madhavan who is the spine of Jodi Breakers which may prove dismal for actors’ fans across the globe. He also shows lack of compatibility with cinematographer who at most of the times isn’t able to give the desired effect to the scene.
Music/ Dialogues/ Cinematography/Editing: Barring 'Bipasha' song along with the romantic number, music does nothing but disrupts the flow of the story. Dialogues are pretty impressive and in sync with the sensitive theme on which the story is based. Cinematographer takes away the essence from the emotional moments by focusing on long shots. Editing shocks at some points, like, for instance, music stops abruptly followed by dialogue delivery.
Mind-boggling performances, strong storyline and dialogues leave Jodi Breakers in the category of one-time watch films. Editing, cinematography and poor portrayal of second half in terms of direction and screenplay proves fatal for the film.
