Rajesh Khanna passes away

Rajesh Khanna, who charmed his audience with his acting skills and screen presence, breathed his last in his Mumbai residence on Wednesday. He was 70.


The actor’s condition had been deteriorating since April when stopped eating and had complained of weakness. He was admitted to hospital several times recently and was discharged from Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday.His estranged wife and yesteryear actor Dimple Kapadia and younger daughter Rinki were with him.


The actor made his entry in the world of Bollywood in the 1960s and then continued to play the lead roles in several commercially successful films in his career.Khanna, was born in 1942 in Amritsar and was adopted and raised by foster parents, who were relatives of his biological parents. He attended St. Sebastian’s Goan High School in Girgaum, along with his friend Ravi Kapoor, who later took the stage name Jeetendra.


He took interest in the world of acting and theatre from his school days and won many prizes in inter college drama competitions. However, his Bollywood career stated with Chetan Anand’s AAKHRI KHAT in 1966. He was then noticed for his performances in films like BAHARON KE SAPNE, AURAT, DOLI, ARADHANA and ITTEFAQ.
























Pertinently, he had 15 consecutive solo superhits between 1969 to 1971, which is still an unbroken record in Indian film history.


His portrayal of the character Anand Sehgal in the movie ANAND is considered to be one of his best performances on-screen.Khanna married Dimple Kapadia in 1973 and has two daughters - Rinki and Twinkle.
